The Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF) is salmon first, salmon always. We harness the passion and power of people to save and restore Pacific salmon in B.C. and the Yukon. And, we never go it alone, working with Indigenous partners, streamkeepers, government agencies and fellow ENGO’s, PSF undertakes research, restoration initiatives and leadership in convening all those willing to help recover Pacific salmon. Position Overview
The Senior Development Officer is responsible for leading and executing fundraising strategies to help Pacific Salmon Foundation achieve its mission and goals. The position will implement activities to advance philanthropic revenue, with a focus on corporate partners and individual donors. The individual is a member of the development, marketing and communications team, reporting to the Director, Development and Campaigns, with regular interaction with the Vice President, Marketing, Communications, and Development, as well as occasional engagement with the President & CEO, and other senior organizational program staff.
 
Roles and Responsibilities 
  • In collaboration with the development team, support the development and execution of a comprehensive fundraising plan, focused on major gifts, to support the PSF’s mission and revenue goals.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations, at the $10,000+ level, in support of the upcoming comprehensive campaign and to help grow PSF’s donor base.
  • Develop and maintain a prospect pool of donors and lead personalized strategies and tactics to build relationships.
  • Work with the development team to identify new potential donors.
  • Play a leading role in stewardship of donors within portfolio, aligned with the organizational process for major donors.  
  • Prepare custom fundraising documents, proposals and stewardship reports for individual and corporate donors.  
  • Collaborate with internal PSF teams and leadership to ensure fundraising is aligned with programmatic goals.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications to implement communications strategies that support fundraising efforts.  
  • Implement exceptional donor records for an optimal donor database and accurate progress reports.   
  • Aid in the preparation of reports on portfolio metrics and key activities as required.
  • Aid in the promotion and implementation of PSF’s key donor and community events.

Exercising Judgment/Impact of Decisions
The Senior Development Officer will exercise independent judgment and take initiative while performing their duties. The Senior Development Officer will be accountable for the effective execution of assigned duties, which is critical to the success of the PSF. The Senior Development Officer interacts with varying levels of staff, consultants and other stakeholders. Errors or lapses in judgment will adversely impact the reputation and efficiency of the PSF.
 
Reporting and Supervision
The Senior Development Officer reports to the Director, Development and Campaigns and works collaboratively with peers on the Development, Marketing and Communications team to support organization and department goals.  
 
Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree in commerce, communications, marketing, and other related fields.   
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a non-profit development or similar role with exposure to fundraising and event management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, research and donor engagement skills with a particular focus on initiating and maintaining relationships with donors and partners.
  • Strong customer services attitude and skills.
  • Experience writing and developing fundraising materials.
  • Computer skills required (Word, Excel, Internet research, database/CRM and email).

Compensation
The compensation structure of this role is comprised of base pay and benefits package.
 
The base pay range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000 per year with the final salary offer based on qualifications, job-related skills, and relevant experience. 
 
PSF offers a generous benefits package including:
  • 15 paid vacation days;
  • 1 paid personal day for each full month of employment, up to 19 days;
  • Holiday closure;
  • Extended health and dental care, life, and disability insurance (eligible on start date);

  • Group pension plan with 4% matching contribution (eligible on start date);
  • Personal development budget up to $3,000 per year, subject to availability of funding.
